Actually, I read a lot of people's work. But "it's possible" is doing a lot of work in this sentence. And is the reason why these ideas so often end up going nowhere.
Yes, it's possible for black people to be white supremacists. Just as it's possible that all racial disparities today are a result of black people not having enough of a "get-up-and-go" attitude.
And just like the people who believe the latter, if the mere possibility is all you need to convince yourself that you're right, you never have to bother with pesky details like facts and evidence and common sense.
But while possible, I think it's highly unlikely that five black men decided to beat another black man to death because they believe that white people are superior. Or because their metaphorical "white slavers" asked them to do so. In fact, their slave masters fired them and pressed charges before the details of the murder were even public.
Of course, it's "possible" they just did that to avoid criticism, right? But is it also possible that their actions betray a cultural of violence within the police that is separate from their racism problem? Do the police murders of innocent white people point in that direction at all?
