Again, we've established this. But it's not about the way I use it, it's the way most of the world uses it, It's the way MLK, for example, used it. And this way, has led to all the aforementioned progress. Including for gay rights, for example.
The legal system is the closest thing we have to a codified, systematised morality. It is faaaaar from perfect. In some cases, it's not even good. But it is the best we have. And while I'm all for efforts to improve it, it couldn't possibly be more obvious that it is better to have it than to not.
This conversation feels like arguing with the abolish the police people. Although, now that I think about it, I wouldn't be surprised if you agreed with them. But just as I think abolishing the police is moronic and not even worth discussion, I think ignoring justice and the legal system is equally moronic.
To be clear, I'm more than aware that the police are also far from perfect. If they had a sensible, workable replacement for policing as we know it that would keep people at least as safe as it does now, but also mitigate the mistakes and human error the police make, I'd be all ears. But they never do. It's all just bluster and bravado and noise.
