Ah! I'm grateful for this opportunity to talk about this! I couldn't quite shoehorn it into the article. Yes, I think that is what Palestinians want.

Exit polls taken in 2006 show that 79.5% of Palestinians wanted a peace agreement with Israel when Hamas took power. 75.2% thought Hamas should change its policies regarding Israel. 78.1% hoped corruption would decrease under Hamas.

Palestinians voted for Hamas for a number of reasons, but I think mainly because all of their options were terrible and because, yes, many in Gaza were rightly sick of the conditions they were living in. Conditions that Hamas could improve any time they want, but that Israel absolutely has to take its share of blame for. As I said in the article, the Palestinians are victims of both Hamas and Israel. Hamas has failed to deliver any of the things Palestinians wanted. Which is probably why they haven't allowed any elections since.

But yes, I think the majority of people, be they Palestinians, Israelis, or from anywhere else, want to live in peace. Nobody wants to watch their children die or lose their home or live in poverty. It's only the zealots who don't have to suffer these conditions who seem okay with them.
