Always nice to start with agreement. But let me just say, this is not a new or somehow fringe policy. As I think I already said to you (or maybe it was someone else, I'm starting to lose track) I'm not aware of a single Israel leader who ever seriously attempted to prevent the illegal settlement of Palestinian land in the West Bank or Jerusalem. And if there is one, he or she was in the overwhelming minority. So the things happening to the Palestinians now are not some niche, outlier position, they're totally consistent with Israel's track record..

And no, I still don't recognise Israel's right to exist in the sense you seem to mean it.

I recognise and fully support the right of the Israeli people to exist. I recognise and fully support the right of the Palestinian people to exist (a right that a surprising number of people seem a little iffy on). I don't think anybody should be forced to leave their homes (except the illegal settlers). But if these people all lived in a single country that is not called Israel but which granted them all equal rights and does not preferentially treat foreign Jews nor discriminate against them, I would have no issue whatsoever. In fact, I think that would be infinitely superior to the current arrangement.

A Jewish state, in the Middle East, sitting on Palestinian land, with the legal system set up the way it currently is, cannot exist without persecuting Palestinians. Because for it to remain a Jewish state, as many Jewish leaders have acknowledged, it needs to manufacture a Jewish majority. And this can only be achieved through Aliyah (which was already slowing and has now gone into the negative), through the birth rate (which isn't high enough), or through marginalising, disenfranchising and/or killing Palestinians.

I don't think a state that treats people like this should exist. I don't care what its name is.
