And it's not. It was decided by who was the aggressor. Rittenhouse inserted himself into a situation he had no business being in. But once there, I see no reason to believe he would have shot anybody if not for the actions of Rosenbaum. That set a chain of other events into motion that lead to the death of Huber and the wounding of Grosskreutz.

As you say, the police are at least as responsible for these deaths as the shooter. But I think the fact that he's white is, at best, a footnote in this whole thing. The important questions are:

1. How is it legal for civilians to take it upon themselves to patrol the streets with semi-automatic weapons? And 2. Why was to even necessary for civilians to step in to stop the looting that the police should have been handling?
