Apparently so. The people who stormed the capitol were a group of people stupid and deranged enough to believe that Donald Trump losing the election would be a disaster to their way of life. I don't think they believed that it was stolen. That's just a convenient lie to justify trying to steal it themselves.
There's no need to describe this stupidity as "whiteness" and indeed doing so is racist. It's a form of shunning those people of colour who acted in a way we disagree with, as well as conflating the many white people who are staunchly against racism with those that support white supremacy.
We can condemn those who stormed the Capitol or who support white supremacy without attacking anybody's identity. And making our claim to our identity conditional on whether we accept certain ideas is harmful to everybody. Particularly people of colour. That was the point of the article.
