As far as I know? Because it's an easy way to stir up outrage and outrage gets clicks. And it's kind of become an arms race where if one publication doesn't do it, they'll lose attention. So they're all trying to find the most inflammatory angle as quickly as possible.

Of course, really, it's our fault. They do it because we take sides to easily and expect the news to entertain us instead of inform us.
