Because Hamas decided to break the ceasefire that was in place on Oct 6th to kill civilians. If Hamas had attacked military targets, the world would be having a very different conversation.
We could spend all day talking about what Israel and Palestine have done wrong. We'd probably find a lot of agreement. We could talk about the blockade and the settlers and the fundamental issue of colonialism. We could talk about the humanitarian disaster happening in Gaza now and Israel's disdain for Palestinian life.
The world is having more of those conversations now. And that's a good thing. But I don't blame people for being horrified by Oct 7th. The focus on that atrocity is a natural reaction.
