😅 Black people will not, nor should they ever, come cap in hand to white people, thank them for the slow, painstaking recognintion of their humanity and ask them for a little more. This particular blind spot, which I've seen in one or two other white people, is laughably lacking in self-awareness and understanding of the topic.

Black people as a demographic have every single right to be angry at white people as a demographic for the oppression they've been forced to endure and the slow, woefully insufficient efforts to right that oppression.

But, of course, we aren't demographics. I'm not mad at white people, and certainly not at any one white person. And I completely agree that epithets are not the path to progress. But any decent white person should be actively trying to help in their own way.

I'm not saying you should all be marching in the streets, but even making the effort to learn a little about racial history, to understand that it was a tiny minority of white people who made the effort to help free black people from the oppression that OTHER WHITE PEOPLE MADE THEM ENDURE AND THE MAJORITY OF WHITE PEOPLE COMPLETELY IGNORED, so they don't make unbelievably tone-deaf comments like "black people should thank white people for their help in the past," would be a nice start.

White people aren't doing black people a favour by recognising their humanity. They're doing what any decent human being should do. I support women and women's rights, but I'm not a woman. I support gay rights but I'm not gay. I don't expect gratitude for this.
