But you would know to an absolute certainty that this wasn't going to happen. Because this situation has been the status quo for decades, with the full support of the IDF, Netanyahu has refused, several times, to do anything about them (except help them), and the rate of settler terrorism has only increased since October 7th. So try again please. What would you want given the actual realities of the situation? Not through the lens of the position you, Rex, with your comfortable oppression-free life would like to continue to hold.
As for if you were in Gaza, why do you assume that you reject Hamas? Why do so many people find genuine empathy so difficult? Hamas are literally the only people in the world who are trying to do anything at all to change your situation. The Western word is funding, arming and providing political cover for the atrocities being visited upon you. And has been silent for everything that happened before October 7th. You are alone.
You may well be radicalised enough that you accept the likelihood of your death or your family's death and can make peace with it if, at least, a blow is struck against your oppressor. You may, of course, be among the vast majority who wouldn't take your perfectly justified anger to the point of killing Israelis civilians, but I don't think you'd put Hamas and Israel in the same universe as far as culpability.
Yes, if you're in Israel or Jordan, your situation isn't necessarily that desperate. Unjust, but not desperate.
