Also, you're basing our argument on something written in 1928? Bernays could no more have predicted social media algorithms than the founding fathers could have predicted AR-15s.

The network doesn't "want" anything. At least, that will remain my position until you show me some evidence to the contrary. Well...that's not true of course. They want money. And they can get that by keeping users on their platforms.

Facebook have already shown they have the ability to tune their algorithms towards more accurate information, but they found it doesn't get shared as much as more inflamatory information does. So that's what they go with. But we are the people sharing it.

Any bias, the propensity to share inaccurate and inflammatory information, that's coming from us. The algorithms are simply a signal booster of those flaws.
