Do you know which nation didn't accept that? THE NATION THAT ISRAEL WAS BUILT IN!!! They wanted, as every nation would want, to maintain their right to the land they'd been living on for generation and the right to live in their homes.

But they didn't see this as an obstacle to peaceful coexistence with Jewish immigrants. In fact, they wanted to share the state. What they refused was the idea that they would be forced from their own land. Here's Azzam Pasha, the general secretary of the Arab League:

"We are fighting for an Arab Palestine. Whatever the outcome the Arabs will stick to their offer of equal citizenship for Jews in Arab Palestine and let them be as Jewish as they like. In areas where they predominate they will have complete autonomy."

The Zionists, of course, didn't want this. They wanted even a partial state from which they could take over the rest of the Palestinians' land. How is it possible that you're surprised the Palestinians objected to this?
