Failing to understand that this was simply a gently humourous introduction to an article about plagiarism and not meant to be a direct comparison would be laughable if it weren't so...no, wait, it's just laughable.

This was a letter written by the head of a small student union. Do you seriously think anybody is comparing it to the doctoral thesis of the president of one of the world's most prestigious universities? Assuming that everybody who disagrees with you is ignorant or stupid is guaranteed to make you look ignorant and stupid.

Nobody with half a brain would ever deny that when a black person holds a prominent role there will be people trying to oust them purely because of the colour of their skin. The same goes for women and their sex, the same goes for gay men/lesbians and their sexuality, the same goes for people in pretty much any non-Christian religion, on and on.

That doesn't mean that every time somebody from one of these groups does something wrong and loses their job, the salient issue is bigotry.
