God, man, I'm sorry, I'd normally be a little more polite/patient with this, but I've already seen several versions of this incredibly dumb, mind-numbingly literalist take. If an analogy of a situation was a 1:1 exact match for the situation in question, it wouldn't be an analogy. It would just be a retelling of the story.
The point of this analogy is not that the situation in Israel/Palestine is exactly the same as the situation in the Antebellum South. This should be painfully obvious. It's that when you oppress people, some of them will inevitably do terrible, even monstrous things to their oppressors. And that the people suffering alongside them, even if they wouldn't personally do those terrible, monstrous things, won't rush to condemn them. Because they understand the aim, even if they disagree with the methods.
It also points out how people who believe they're doing their oppressing "kindly," are deluding themselves. And the only way to prevent future monstrous actions is to stop oppressing people.
This is scary for the oppressors, because they know deep down how terrible they've been, and are worried about the understandable hatred their actions have caused. But until they seek justice instead of continued control, they will never know true peace. And they'll have to live with the guilt that they're trying, but can't quite manage, to ignore
It's fascinating to me how the people who can't understand this very clear analogy basically just can't understand the reality of human nature when you mistreat people.
And thank you, for once again repeating this catastrophically braindead claim that the people in Gaza elected Hamas despite the fact that Hamas didn't even win a majority in 2005, they haven't allowed elections since (meaning they're a dictatorship, not a democratically elected government), that around 40% of Palestinians being killed today weren't even born in 2005, and well over 60% of them (probably much higher) were too young to vote. This is exactly as stupid as saying you elected Lyndon B. Johnson.
But seeing this utter nonense for the umpteenth time has finally motivated me to write an article debunking this and other stupid arguments I keep seeing over and over again.
