Good God, thank you so much for writing this Shanna. First, to be clear, my intention isn't to discourage people from talking about race. I think it's vital that we all talk about race openly and honestly and with compassion. Nobody's voice is less valuable than anybody else's. So please don't stop writing about that part of your life.

But you've absolutely nailed the problem I'm talking about; the internet incentivises us to treat racism like a shiny new toy instead of a problem which should be approached seriously. Performative outrage at TV shows and petty arguments about language and spelling, take the place of real world issues that affect real people.

Racism musn't become a source of gratification or income for those who claim to fight it. Otherwise, are we truly motivated to end it?
