Haha, yeah, Medium isn't a great place to have conversations about race unfortunately. In fact the internet in general isn't the easiest place. A number of black writers here have blocked me for politely disagreeing with their articles.

As for your comment, I think it should go without saying that education is a hugely important piece of this puzzle. But there are many others. Black poverty (as in lack of wealth, not necessarily low income) is related to a number of historical factors too. There isn't one simple answer that will fix it.

The important thing to bear in mind is that people who shut down conversation usually aren't interested in progress. And, in their defence, that there are plenty of white commenters who do very little but try to troll black writers about race (so we should all try to be patient). But it's absolutely possible to have conversations without attacking each other. I do it regularly. Keep trying, keep engaging, and, for the sake of your sanity, try to do more of it off the internet😅
