Yeah, I considered this analogy, being an ally is certainly similar to being a friend in that you sould have enough respect for that person persons to be honest with them when you agree *and* when you disagree. And they should have enough respect for you that they listen to what you have to say instead oof demanding your obedience.
The reason I didn't go with it is that friendship isn't necessary for allyship. I think the central point is a desire to do what's right, whoever is on the receiving end of the injustice. I doubt many abolitionists were friends with slaves, but they still saw that slavery was wrong. I think that "allyship", as clumsy as that term is, is about values.
