Hey! Sorry, I just noticed I didn't respond to this. The problem is, I don't think there's a single or centralised "they" and I don't think there's a single thing that "they" want.

I think some "woke" people are absolutely genuinely committed to a fairer, kinder world and are just hopelessly confused about how to get there. Some people like having an excuse to yell at people and call themselves the good guys. Some people have had their minds warped by anger at the undeniable injustices that minorites have faced over the years. Some enjoy the power that claiming victimhood provides them.

And all of them have lost the ability to think critically about these issues. So when some of them "lash out at the heretics" I think they do so because they really have bought into the idea that any disagreement is evil.

It's tempting, as the "woke" themselves do, to simplify "the other side's" motivations into a caricature. But I think it's important to recognise the nuance in people's views. Especially those with whom you disagree.
