Hi Martin! I see where you're coming from on some of these but I disagree.

A) When I describe Hitler as a tsunami it's not because I imagine he arrived in politics and immediately started gassing Jews. It's because by the time the allies understood what was happening there was less tham a uyear between the signing of the Munich agreement and the beginning of WW2 after Hitler made it clear that that wasn't going to satisfy him.I'd say that's pretty quick. Of course, you could verym very easily argie that moer should have been done sooner, I'd completely agree, butt most of what could have been doe would have to have been done in Germany.

B) This is a fair point. That's why I speciifically said laughed at to contrast the way that Trump has been laughed at whereas Hitler wasn't. As I said above, you're completely right that he wasn't taken seriously enough, but nobody was laughing, they just thought they could placate him.

C) I'm not sure what you're saying here. The degradation of decency, as you say, had been going on for a long time before Hitler even rose to power. I was comparing the conditions Hitler took advantage of with the conditions that Trump is creating. It's true that I have no evidence to support this belief, but I don't think Trump would have sent any Mexicans to the gas chamber if he'd won a second term.

D) You're absolutely right. Again, I know I treaded a dangerous line, but I think I was quite clear that I wasn't comparing Trump to Hitler. My comparison was with the conditions that enabled Hitler's rise and the conditions Trump is creating now.
