I have no idea what this long, rambling critique is supposed to say. You're not educating me about anything. In fact, I've written about many of these things already and I'm quite confident I know more about them than you do. You're somehow disappointed because you wouldn't have written exactly the same article as me? I'm not surprised. You're not me! Why don't you sit down and write something yourself? I'd be happy for you to show me how it's done if you have the ability to do more than complain about how “clumsy” other people’s hard work is.

It's not possible to encapsualte the entirety of the black experience into a single piece of writing, so yes, there are things I didn't mention. Why you're telling me that racism that happened in the past left a legacy in the present (something else I've written about by the way) is beyond me. Do you seriously think that every time a black writer writes about race they should condense 500 years of history into 1000 words?

As for your "if certain black people do feel as if they're victims, so what?" (note that I didn't criticise black victimhood at all), "so what" is that the image of black people being created by our media disempowers black people and leads to worse outcomes for them. It sets black children up to fail because they’re told they’re going to before they even try. It funnels them down a path where they don't believe in their ability to thrive. If you don't care about this, at the very least you're a fool, and at worst, you don't care about the prosperity of black people.

This article isn't a criticism of black people. Far from it. It's a criticism of an industry that has sprung up to profit from our suffering. It's a criticism of people who insist on droning on about problems that affected black people in the 1800s when there are racist issues that affect people right here and right now. It's a criticism of people who claim that they want to help the black community but when they gain the fame and wealth to do so, they do nothing as communites end up struggling even more.
