I honestly find this mindset so chilling! A two week suspension from work? For telling a black man, in her own time, to "stay in his hood"??! Does that sound reasonable to you? How exactly did you arrive at that figure?

What if he was abusive first? One week for extenuating circumstances? What if I tell somebody to F-off? I'd say that's more offensive than what she said. Do I get a month? This comfort with meting out punishment based on whatever random, subjective feeling scratches the itch is truly terrifying. You're not offended, you don't know what really happened, you just want to see somebody punished.

Yes, I know black people deserve respect (I am one after all). I know racism shouldn't be trivialised. I just want to see racism ended more than I want to see it punished. And I'm unwilling to ignore that in any human society there will be a certain degree of conflict that we don't need to pretend is going to lead to the downfall of western civilisation.

Most importantly, how comfortable would you be with me poring over a record of everything you've said for the past year, say? Are you confident there wouldn't be any "mistakes" we needed to give you a two-week suspension over? Because if not, do you not see how horrifying the society this leads to is?
