I know that you wanted to make a broader point, but this nails the problem I'm pointing to. You get to like the abstract idea because you don't have to deal with the concrete reality of racism.
For many people (I'm not accusing you of this obviously, I don't know you), anti-racism is a fun intellectual exercise to dip in and out of. Treating it this way is MORE harmful than simply being disinterested because it wastes time and attention and often makes the whole movement seem ridiculous (racist knitting anyone?). I'd much rather everybody who thought of anti-racism as abstract or fun, simply found a better hobby.
