I love this quote. I can't remember where I first heard it but it really made me laugh. So perfectly expressed. It's often noted how much these issues overlap, not just the struggle for the recognition of our humanity, but also the forces, from without and within, that patronise, talk over and belittle us in new ways.

The tragedy is that plenty of black directors, etc. are gleefully propping up these stereotypes because they're profitable and because some black people have learned to see themselves as avatars of oppression first and foremost.

Hope you enjoyed the TED talk. I absolutely love it.
