I really hate it when people respond to my comments with an article, but I'll do it here, just because Freddie deBoer wrote an absolute masterpiece of a response to this criticism (https://freddiedeboer.substack.com/p/please-just-fucking-tell-me-what).

The TLDR is that I'd love to consign the word "woke" to the trash heap of history. As a lifelong liberal, I find it kind of embarrassing. But it does describe something. And it describes something that has staunchly refused to define itself in a more meaningful way.

As much as I dislike it, "woke" is pretty much the only word available to clarify that this political philosophy, whatever you want to name it, is distinct from liberalism or the left. And occasionally, making that distinction is necessary.
