I should thank you, because this comment inspired me to write another article on this topic. I think this is a concept a lot of people are struggling with.

In short, yes, some, not many, but some, situations in life are black and white. There comes a point where it's intellectually and morally cowardly to deny that. Sometimes there are situations where you don't get to feel good about yourself after doing what must be done. Sometimes you're dealing with people who aren't willing to compromise or listen to reason. The Nazis, Al Qaeda, the KKK, they aren't interested in nuance.

Hamas is one such group. They are religious fanatics who are interested only in destroying Israel. They haven't "softened." How you can say something so asinine in the wake of them breaking a ceasefire in order to kill 1400 civilians is absolutely beyond me. There isn't room for interpretation in the passage I quoted to you. In the interview I linked, Ghazi Hamad states clearly that Hamas will attack Israeli civilians "again and again" until they have annihilated Israel. Do you see "nuance" there?

Groups like Hamas will use your desire to believe they can be negotiated with, and they will see it as the weakness it is. As the subtitle of the article says, when people show you who they are, believe them.
