I think the evidence is clear if you look at pretty much any aspect of history.

Slavery > segregation > (closer to) equality.

Homosexuality is illegal > legal > marriage rights.

Women can't vote > can vote > (closer to) equality (I note the backsliding of Roe vs Wade here).

It's infuriating that these battles are necessary. It's frustrating to watch them in real time and see the see-sawing to and fro. It's easy to forget as you look back on this progress that it wasn't smooth, that there were moments that felt like defeat mixed in with the victories. The arc of the moral universe bends towards justice. But there will always be people trying to bend it the other way.
