I think this is an impression you could only get if you haven't watched the show. Ricky doesn't devote much time to trans people. As I say at the beginning of the article, he jokes about all kinds of things. It's just that all the furore, predictably enough, focuses on trans people.

I don't think comedy needs to be self-deprecating. We should be able to laugh at and with each other. In fact, I think the implicit demand of the trans community never to have jokes told about them does more to alienate them in people's minds than to garner sympathy.
