I want to be very clear that I'm not defending Rittenhouse, but no, what caused this boy to go to Kenosha is the fact that looters and rioters had been setting fire to people's businesses and destroying their property for two days with little to no response from the police. He responded to a message from people within Kenosha appealing for armed citizens to protect the town.

There are a thousand reasons why he shouldn't have gone there. But to pretend he just turned up to cause trouble and not because of the trouble already there, is disingenuous. We can condemn Rittenhouse without pretending that nobody else was at fault for what happened.
