If you did, you'd know "war" isn't an answer to my question.

The genuine difference between this and most other wars is that Israel is an occupying force that has inflicted a blockade on Gaza for seventeen years. And in response to a terrorist attack that killed ~1000 people, has dropped more bombs and killed more civilians in seven months than the US did in Iraq or in the twenty-year Afghanistan war.

And while I'm not defending Hamas or their military strategies, how exactly are they supposed to build their civilian infrastructure apart from their military infrastructure? Gaza is roughly the size of Detroit. And the infamous tunnels that Israel used to justify their relentless bombardment are still ~80% intact. A higher percentage, it's worth noting than the surviving civilian homes.

And no, the civilian/soldier death rate is unknown at present. But Israel's numbers only make sense if you assume that every single male human being killed who was between 14-90, is a Hamas fighter. And even then it doesn't quite add up, You need to throw in a few thousand women and children too.
