I'm not interested in dealing with what "should" be possible. Many things should be possible and yet aren't happening. I'm interested in looking at the real world, seeing what's happening, and basing decisions on how to move forward on that.

I'm all for idealism. Truly I am. Idealism is a vital first step towards positive change. But those who refuse to let it give way to practicality never achieve anything. And almost invariably end up preventing (or at least impeding) actual progress.

And yes, I've already agreed that there is racial bias within the police force. I daresay I'm more aware of the specifics of this than you are. But as I've also already said, I'd rather deal with the random checks and feel confident I wasn't going to get beaten to death, than get checked at the same rate as everybody else but risk being beaten to death when I do.

Again, I want both of these problems to be addressed. But it should be painfully obvious which one takes priority.
