I’m not speaking in general terms here. I’m well aware of the statistics and the odds of violence in police interactions with black people (although they’re nothing like what most people think). But let’s be clear; in Daunte’s case, the situation escalated because he tried to flee due to an outstanding warrant.
We can mind-read about racism all we want in this particular case, but what we know for sure is that he wouldn’t have died if he hadn’t resisted a lawful arrest.
Again, this is the point I’m making in the article. There is plenty of real racism in the world, and we should be doing everything we can to oppose that. But ignoring or minimising pertinent facts because we want to blacme racism for every black/white interaction does not help us.
