I'm not sure where the inconsistency is. Finkelstein has done more to shed light on the history of this conflict than most people alive today. He has spoken many times in clear, concrete terms about solutions that would satisfy Israeli security concerns and Palestinian self-determination.
I strongly disagree with his comments here, but compared to the students brainlessly chanting "FrOm tHe RiVeR to ThE sEa," and running blindly down the "anti-zionism to antisemitism pipeline," he is an older, wiser statesman figure.
And given that in the incident I mention he's literally trying to get the students to tone down the rhetoric so that a more nuanced, productive conversation can be had, I don't see any problem with citing him in the way that I did.
Again, any article on Medium that claims he isn't an asset to the Palestinian cause is inevitably going to be more of the same purity testing, angel-or-demon nonsense. And, by the way, will inevitably be written by someone who hasn't contributed a trillionth as much to the Palestinian cause as he has.
He's just a man, no sane person ever claimed he was perfect or right about everything, but his work stands on its own merits at this point.
