I'm really, really struggling to see how this marries up with your earlier statement that you're just now focusing on racism.
And yes, I do have white and biracial people in my family. Does that matter? Does this tell you something about how I think that you didn't know before? I question your racial attitudes because you seem to think that having a black family member or a black boss as a young man automatically makes you "one of the least racist people of any colour". Like that's such a strange thing to believe. It's really sad to me that you can't see that.
To me, "racist" implies a degree of malice which I don't think you have. But it's interesting how you've switched onto the attack with me, saying ridiculous things about how my views "promote divisions" or "work against solutions" when anybody who's read my work couldn't possibly believe that. You're not arguing with me when you say things like that, you're arguing with an archetype of a black person that you have in your head. Or maybe it’s just your fear talking. I don’t know. But I know it’s not based on anything I’ve ever said.
I don't think you're Donald Trump. Obviously. I don't need to read for eight minutes or one minute to figure that out. But the lack of self awareness required to say something like "I'm one of the least racist people of any colour" is something you apparently share. All I can suggest is that you think about that. If you don't want to, that's up to you. But don't get mad at me for pointing out the issue.
I'm not putting you into a box. If I did that I would just write you off and stop bothering to respond. Honestly, after what you wrote on Substack I was tempted to do just that. You can't expect strangers online to be impressed with your empathy simply because you continually assert that you have so much of it. People can only go by how you express yourself. I know you often say that you write without thinking carefully about what you've written, but maybe it's time you started.
