I'm struggling to see how you characterise his behaviour as playing the victim. Yes, he recorded the interaction (as you might if you saw people who look like you being killed by the police on an endless loop), and it turns out, it was a good thing he did wouldn't you say? If nothing had happened it looks like paranoia, but given how the interaction went down, I'd say that a few more people will start doing the same thing.

But more to the point, I wasn't claiming that the stop was racially motivated. I agree, there ws no way the officer who pulled him over knew he was black. Wheter Guttierez would have behaved the same way with a white man I don't know. I'm not claiming he woudn't have, we'll just never know. The reference at the beginning of the article was about how hungry the media is for racially chaged news.

As I said, Nazario probably felt it was necessary because he keeps seeing black people killed on the news, but I realise that that's not an accurate picture of police violence in America. However, if you're saying you've been spat at by the police and you think that's acceptable or that the correct response is to be civil, we have very different understandings of the role of the police.
