In each of the examples I gave you, these people were fired because of the pressure put on their employers by Twitter mobs, or in the case of Holy Land restaurant, on their landlords. I'm not objecting to free speech in the least, I'm objecting to the utter lack of empathy that the mob evinces when it sees an opprtunity to attack somebody from a stance of moral purity.
Case in point, the 15 year old girl you think it's fine to attack because she "mentioned Hitler." Do you seriously believe her age should have nothing to do with how she's treated? Thank God the legal system disagrees with you. But even ignoring that, do you think the actions of this child should have destroyed the business of her father and his employees who had nothing to do with the tweets? Where the hell is your empathy?
Again, it's so maddeningly childish that you assume that because I'm against cruelty, even when it's the left being cruel, that I'm a "Righty". Jesus man. Grow up. I couldn't possible be more liberal, I just don't like bullies and my morality on the issue isn't contingent on who is doing the bullying.
Yes, Mr Weinstein has done very well for himself since his firing. David Shor found another job. Good for them. Is that where you've set the bar? Does cancel culture not exist unless its victims are utterly and permanently destroyed? Does the year of abuse, threats and slander Weinstein went through count for nothing because it all worked out okay for him in the end? Does the stress of losing your job even though you did nothing wrong count for nothing because you get another one? Does bullying not matter if the kid eventually makes a success of themselves? Your argument is asinine.
And no, it's not whataboutism to say that it's wrong no matter who does it. Do you understand what the term means? Whataboutism is saying "What about Candace Owens?" or "the Right's cancel culture is older so it's fine if the left does it too". I'm saying who gives a shit about whether the person doing it is on the left or the right, we should be against it wherever it happens.
