Indeed, one of the many things that makes this so horrifying is the fact that there isn't even the obviously stupid excuse of ordinary racism.

But the issue here, as Preston points out below, is the victims. If the Palestinians had blond hair and blue eyes, if they had Netflix and Instagram accounts, I promise you the international reaction to their slaughter would be very different.

And while, yes, the whole "white coloniser" thing is simplistic when applied to Israel, there is still racism of a sort happening too. Most of the brown-haired, brown-eyed, and certainly brown-skinned Jews you're referring to already lived in Palestine before Israel existed, mostly in peace. The issue with Zionism is the idea that an unlimited number of mainly European Jews would come there, expel 750,000 Arabs from homes they'd lived in for generations at gunpoint, kill thousands more, and slowly and violently take over the land.

Nobody in the West would accept such an invasion on their land. And so, everybody understands why Ukraine is fighting tooth and nail to repel such an invasion from Russia. Everybody understands why it's normal that those blond-haired, blue-eyed people have fought so stubbornly to protect their land and homes. But it's suddenly less clear when brown people in the Middle East do the same thing.
