It's always bittersweet when I write an article highlighting a problem with our discourse and then find people in my comments evincing that exact problem. It shows the I've read the mood right, but also how hard getting through to people is.

I don't know you Russ. I'm not saying you've been fortunate in general. I have no idea how the pandemic has affected you, but I'm sure, as for pretty much everybody, its been miserable. My point is simply that it's been miserable in different ways for different people. You have escaped suffering the others are enduring and no doubt endured suffering that others have escaped.

When you say there are easy answers, you're saying that because you're looking at the problems most relevant to you and seeing very easily how they might be solved. We can all do that. But those solutions will very likely be the exact opposite of what somebody else needs.

So when I point out that there are other needs to consider, you jump straight to me wishing for their deaths. Hopefully you've already calmed down enough to see how ridiculous this is. Yes, I've lost elderly people close to me. My mother, who is not only elderly but in poor health, refuses to get vaccinated despite my numerous appeals to her sanity. I worry about her every day.

Everybody is suffering here Russ. So how about you take a deep breath and stop acting as if you understand this incredibly difficult situation better than everybody else who's living it right alongside you?
