It's not just my observation, it's the finding of a representative poll of over 6000 Americans. Do you not think white parents or Asian parents send their children after school clubs? Do you think it's rare that somebody of any colour feels as if they've been unfairly passed over for promotion?

I'm one of the black men who has been followed around the store. It is annoying It don't come close to cracking the top ten of my concerns in life. And my life is pretty good compared to the people we should really be talking about when we discuss the impact of racism. If a racist security guard is for biggest problem, your life is good.

As I often seem to have to remind somebody or other in my articles, I'm not denying that racism exists. How could I?! I've experienced it first-hand numerous times. But let's be honest; not that numerous. To pretend that racism is a daily grind for black people today is, in almost all cases, a lie.

And my point is that the way we talk about racism today all too often erases the people who are most affected by it. Micro-aggressions need not apply until their needs have been fully heard and addressed.
