I've got to say, this isn't necessarily true. A lot of publications won't publish work that's not pushing a certain narrative, whether that's on race, politics, religion or otherwise, for fear of angering their audiences.

I'm a black man for god's sake, and I've been rejected from black publications for writing things that called for more unity and less divisiveness.
