I've lived in a lot of countries. The U.S., The U.K., Argentina, Spain, Morocco. And I've travelled to over 50 others. I think I have a fairly good handle on how race is viewed around the world.
The place where I was treated with the most suspicion, interestingly enough, was India. Not 100% sure whether it was because I was black, but I genuinely couldn't walk around any store without being openly followed around by a member of staff.
In the U.S., where I lived in New York and Florida (and visited family and friends in other states for a month or two at a time), I had very few issues. Not zero, but certainly not a daily torment of oppression.
Again, there's this narrative, especially from some writers on Medium, that being black is a living hell. Outside of a few people who are financially motivated to pretend otherwise, very few black people will corroborate this. Zero that I know personally.
