Joshua 23:4: "Behold, I have divided unto you by lot these nations that remain, to be an inheritance for your tribes, from Jordan, with all the nations that I have cut off, even unto the great sea westward."

In Deuteronomy 12:5: Jacob was told that Jerusalem was “the site that the Lord your God will choose from among all your tribes, as a place established in His name. It is there that you shall go to seek His presence.

Israel is the name given to Jacob, the grandson of Abraham, after he wrestled with an angel. Allegedly.

As for the Muslims, Jerusalem is the last place the prophet Muhammed visited before he ascended to heaven on a winged horse. Every practicing Muslim, everywhere in the world, faces Mecca, which is around 1500 km from Jerusalem. But the first Muslims faced the first qibla or "the qibla of Abraham" which was Jerusalem.

And, of course, as you allude to, until the British created the state of Israel in 1917, The entire region was called Palestine and was inhabited, primarily, by Muslims. I'm not overlooking the history you're describing, I'm talking about what enables and justifies that barbarity and absolutism.

I'm talking about the fact that the apartheid in Israel is based on whether you're a Jew or a Muslim. I'm talking about the fact that if you're a Muslim who's been living in that region your whole life and want to apply for citizenship, you can't. But if you're a Jew who visits from anywhere else in the world, you can do so straight away.

I mean, if you think this dispute is being fought purely on the grounds of logic and resources rather than religion and zealotry, ask yourself why the men who killed Shani Louk shouted "Allahu Akbar" as they paraded her body through the streets.

So yes, the reason these two peoples both believe they're the sole rightful owners of the same thing is that both people believe God has bequeathed it to them. That's why, after decades of murder and death, they can't simply live side by side. Immigration is hardly anything new. And while it's rarely perfectly smooth, it's nothing ike Israel/Palestine.
