Yeah, maybe ultimately the problem is claiming allyship in the first place. I struggle to see how that claim isn't something one does for oneself instead of for the people they're trying to help. Standing against injustice isn't allyship, it's just being a good person.

Friendship helps of course, mainly because it some injustices are more visible if you're close to somebody affected by them, but an individual's experience doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things. If you want to understand a problem, you have to go deeper than the opinion of your friends.
