No! I don't know this! And even if it’s true, I don’t think they should be. Nor do lots of people. If you don't believe me, here's a well known drag queen pointing out that drag is adult entertainment and is obviously inappropriate for children (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJ-ty1BuSc4). Again, how I'm supposed to interpret this as you not defending it I don't know. If you wrote an article about child molestation, and I commented "children have been being molested forever!! And the egregious cases are rare!" (both of which are technically true and totally besides the point) how would that come across to you?
I'm also not intentionally misinterpreting you. Your entire comment seems geared to trivialise the issues I'm raising in the article. Otherwise, as I asked, why does it matter even if these egregious incidents are "few and far between"? Why do you think pointing out the problem is a "cheap shot"? Why are you engaging in relativism by talking about clowns?
I'm not talking about the "dark history" of clowns. Clown shows aren't considered adult entertainment by anybody, right? I mean, yes, they pop up in horror movies now and again, but those movies, you guessed it, are for adults! There's no universe in which you can sincerely claim that there's a reasonable comparison to be made.
But what seems to be happening here, is that you're mistaking my mentioning the LGBT community for blaming the LGBT community. I'm absolutely not. My entire point is that drag queens and dildo wearing monkeys don't represent the LGBT community. Straight people engage in hypersexualised behaviour too, you know? There's no problem with that. The problem is with it being displayed around children. The people using LGBT people as justification for this are absolutely wrong to be doing so.
