No man, this just isn't true. Of course, there are some black people who are lazy and sit on their asses doing nothing. Just like there are people of all colours who do that. But the number of black people starting way behind what is the starting line for the average person, is far larger than the number of any other group. And it's fair to say that America put them there. American racism is different from the rest of the world with the exception of somewhere like South Africa. It’s the proximity to racist history that makes the difference.
Don't mistake what I'm saying in this article. The fact that racism isn't the defining experience of black people's lives, the fact that it's perfectly possible for black people to succeed, and the fact that many African Americans aren’t suffering from these disadvantages, doesn't mean that racism isn't a lot of work to do.
