No. No you didn’t. You engaged in the spectacularly unoriginal practice of taking the most negative possible interpretation of what I wrote (helped along by some well-worn victim fetishisation and your imagination), and then, once you’d established me as the “bad guy” to your satisfaction, went on to build an entire argument against a completely imaginary person.
God, this is tiresome. Don't you ever get tired of arguing with your imagination?
Nothing I've written suggests that trans people don't face horrendous abuse. I know they do. I've seen it with my own eyes.
I'm simply pointing out, to somebody who didn't seem to be aware, that people who dare to have an opinion about whether we ever need to consider sex instead of gender when talking about women's issues, are also subjected to horrendous abuse. I've also seen that with my own eyes. I've even experienced a little of it.
I'm not getting defensive when trans people"correct" me. If you think my reply was defensive, or if you think the previous commenter "corrected me" I don't think you have any idea what you're talking about. What a woman is is absolutely up for debate. It's being debated by the people who have been uncontroversially and exclusively known as women for the entirety of human history until about 10 years ago. That you think their views on the topic are irrelevant is...interesting.
It's also interesting that you demand such compliance from other people about the language they can and can't use to refer to you, but feel entitled to unilaterally decide how to refer to others. And even whether they have the right to be offended by your choices.
