Not that they're subject to racism, they claim that all white people are racist. You know, that thing you said that NOBODY IS SAYING. I didn't say it was "bad form", I just said that it's racist. And no, it's not true. I know plenty of white people who aren't racist. I've known some who are too.

Yes, I'm very well aware black people are subject to racist idioms too. If I was talking to someone who said we weren't, I'd link him to some examples of how wrong he was! My point, and this is really the only point I've been trying to make this whole time, is that race essentialism, as in "you are like this because you are black/white" or "blackness/whiteness is Y" perpetuates racism. And racism is the thing we're supposed to be trying not to perpetuate. Right??!!

I don't know how I can be any more clear about this. I'm not saying that anybody shouldn't blame white American history for the struggles that black people face in America (though I'd probably just call it American history). I'm not saying those greivances shouldn't be righted. I'm not saying that history shouldn't be taught accurately and fully. I very strongly believe it should be. And I understand that it often isn't at the moment. On this, as on most other points, I think we agree.

Again, the only “beef” I have with your stance, and all I'm asking you, is what is the value in doing that teaching in a way that perpetuates race essentialism and therefore racism?
