Of course, my point is that black people's narratives are dominated by racial angst in one way or another. You only need to read a few of the posts right here on Medium to find people complaining literally whenever a TV show depicts black people but doesn't show them suffering under racial oppression.

I don't know about you, but my life isn't like that. My family and friends' lives aren't like that. And I think it's incredibly important that black children get to see that life isn't guaranteed to be like that for them.

To use your analogy, it would be like every film with a Jewish character referencing the holocaust and antisemitism. I'm not beginning to suggest we ignore these historical facts. But they shouldn't be used to define people.
