One of the many terrible things BLM did is move the Overton window to a point where some people would argue with this. Even the disaster that was CHAZ/CHOP or the dead bodies in Minneapolis after they "defunded" their police force didn't convince everybody how stupid it is to think society can function without a police force.
More infuriating still, black people, especially those who live in poor and crime-affected neighbourhoods, are more likely than average to say they want the same or increased police presence. The idea that defunding the police is a "black" position is completely false. It's a privileged, wealthy, liberal position.
