Ooh, "blacksplain." Nice.😅 That's definitely the way to show your empathy with the travails of racism or have me take you seriously.

And no, actually, if you were to talk to me about what is and isn't racism, I wouldn't call you racist. Because I'm not an idiot. I don't think that the happenstance of my group identity gives me divine authority to talk about a particular issue. Racism is a real, objective thing. The word has meaning. And if I misapplied it, as people do every day, you'd be absolutely right to call me out on it.

So if you think criticising the illegal actions of the Israeli government automatically means you hate or are bigoted against Jews, make the case. But I suspect you can't. Which is why you have to make do with grandstanding.

Ditto your bizarre projection about me claiming that Jews were "as bad white people." I said absolutely no such thing. I simply pointed out that Baldwin was talking about something specific, not a general hatred of Jewish people for their Jewishness. And again, he concludes the piece by condemning all forms of bigotry. And calling out the roots of antisemitism in 1960s black people for what it is.

I don't speak for the progressive black community. Nor do I even know what you mean by writing Jews out of black history. I certainly didn't do that. So I don't know why you're asking me about it. Or does every black person you speak to become a representative of the black community when you have an axe to grind?

I don't hate you or Jews in general or any community. As Baldwin says, in the piece you still don't appear to have read, "All racist positions baffle and appall me. None of us are that different from one another, neither that much better nor that much worse."

So while I understand that Jewish people have gone through unspeakable horrors over the years and still face bigotry today, eternal appeals to victimhood don't interest me. They don't interest me from you, they don't interest me from black people, and they especially don't interest me when people hide behind them to justify completely unrelated things. I know antisemitism exists. I know about the Holocaust. I'm not denying either of those things. But I also know that neither of them justify, in any way, Israel's brutal and illegal treatment of Palestinians.

Just as, for clarity's sake, Israel's brutal treatment of Palestinians doesn't justify Hamas killing and raping and abducting innocent Israeli civilians.

p.s. I skimmed your profile. That circumcision joke wasn't funny in situ, never mind shoehorned into a conversation that is totally unrelated to Jews in Hollywood. Maybe try having an honest conversation instead of spouting canned talking points?
