People are very quick to jump on the police when they make a mistake because they completely overlook how stressful the sitution is and how short a time they have to react. They forget that the police are human and will fear for their lives in certain situations and so they act as if they should be perfect.
On the other hand, people also forget that most people have never been in any kind of violent confrontation, never mind had a gun pointed at them. For most, that's completely overhwelming and they just won't be able to think straight.
It's easy to judge both situations when you're not in them. As I said, I agree completely that people should cooperate with the police, and the actions you mention are common sense. But I don't think you can be confident that you'd react as camly and reasonable if there we angry cops shouting at you with their guns pointed at you. It's one of those situations where nobody knows how they'll react until they're in the situation.
